The top 8 Job Interview Mistakes!

Making a mistake during an interview can significantly reduce your chances of getting hired. With a bit of care and attention, most of the mistakes during interviews can be easily avoided. We have spoken to several interviewers and listed the top 8 mistakes people make during interviews.

Arriving too Early or too Late
- Nothing makes a worse impression then arriving late for an interview. If you can't get there on time for the interview, how late are you going to be every morning? On the other hand, arriving too early puts pressure on the interviewer and makes you appear too eager for the job.

Don't Smoke
- Even if the interviewer is smoking, don't smoke yourself. Besides making you appear nervous, studies have shown that smoking during an interview reduces your chances of getting hired.

Act Natural
- Make eye contact, smile and focus on your interviewer. Try to relax and act natural to bring out your best side. Remember a firm handshake at the start and end of the interview!

Arrogance
- Being confident is one thing, being arrogant is another. Many people make the mistake of appearing too arrogant during an interview, and this only suggests that they will not make good team players. Show the interviewers your skills, without coming across as a bossy know all!

Appearance
- Image is all important during an interview. Being over or under dressed does not score any points with the interviewers. Dress adequately for the occasion and avoid extreme hairstyles, jewelry, clothes or make up and overpowering perfume! Check out our Interview section for more tips.

Lack of Communication
- The word interview implies interaction, therefore one word responses are not well favored with the interviewers. Apart from this, one word yes or no answers do not reveal much about your character and personality dropping your chance of getting selected to near nil!

Being Unprepared
- There is absolutely no excuse for going to an interview unprepared. Research the company well before going to the interview and formulate witty responses for some of our typical Interview questions, to make sure you don't blush and stammer when that tricky question comes up!

Lack of Interest
- Sitting back on your interview seat and stifling a yawn is hardly going to land you your dream job. Be active! Ask some intelligent questions during the interview, and try to turn the interview into an interaction other then the usual one way question and response session.
