Before you start negotiating your salary, you need to ask yourself a few questions and do some research.
Here is a set of factors that you should consider before deciding what you are worth!
What is the market value of your job? You need to figure what is being paid for jobs with similar responsabilites. Start by asking friends in similar
posts or check out with local employment agencies. What is the average salary?
What is your personal minimum range? That is what offer is a complete no-no for you?
How have you performed in previous years or in previous jobs? Did you reach any targets you were set? Can you prove it?
What do you have to offer? Make a list of skills and qualities that might be valuable to your employer.
Emphasise your experience and how this can be useful to the company.
What benefits are included in the salary?
What is the company making out of you? How much is the company earning/will earn from your job?
On the negotiating table
Wait for the employer to bring up the salary topic.
Remain calm and confident, it's normal to feel a bit uncomfortable discussing salaries.
When asked about your salary expectations, be as non commital as possible, try stating your current salary
and why you wish to get a better wage.
Ask the employer to propose an offer.
If you don't like the offer, stay quiet, the uncomfortable silence might prompt the
employer to better the offer.
If you have to shoot a price, go for a middle range. Don't go too low or too high!
Be prepared to walk away if they just won't get into your minimum range.
